The Basics
Self-appointed fashion gurus Charlie and Libby give
their advice on how students can improve their style.
Men’s fashion should combine classic and contemporary,
be fashionable with a bit of flair. But above all you should
reach a style that works for you and we’re here to help you.
Sports
Two things important to remember when
building your wardrobe: How your clothes
fit and the type of look you want to achieve.
If your clothes fit you well, regardless of the
price, the outfit will look like it was made for you.
So many men make the mistake of
just grabbing clothes off the rack and
it ends up being one size too big and it
changes the shape of your body entirely.
So many underestimate a good fit, it
makes you look smarter, well put together
and is much more flattering to your body.
You then want to think about the type of
look you are trying to achieve. If you want
to be casual suits and ties are obviously not
fitting into that category, however another
common mistake men tend to make is
dressing too casual. While comfort is key,
don’t let your style suffer for the sake of
it. Many fail to realise a slim fit pair of
jeans and flannel top can be just as comfy
as those old jogging bottoms and hoodie.
The sporty look is perfect for when you’re
running late for college and you need an outfit
that’s quick and easy but doesn’t look like it
was just thrown together. While tracksuits
may not be appropriate for all situations,
when you’re just sitting in class you want to
be comfortable and ready for anything, pairing
some tracksuit bottoms with a plain tee and
trainers is a basic outfit that looks planned no
matter how unprepared you may have been.
“Give an outfit
that something
extra”
ACCESSORIES AREN’T JUST FOR GIRLS
Hats, jewellery and bags aren’t just for girls,
guys can wear them too, and a good accessory
can tie your whole outfit together. For any
look I would suggest carrying a bag, shoving
everything in your pockets is just going to leave
you un-organised with a pocket full of rubbish.
Whether it’s a ruck sack, back pack
or a satchel, there are tons of different
bags to suit any look you choose.
Smaller accessories look good too, a
good watch is a classic, your phone isn’t always
going to be charged and it takes no time at all
(mind the pun) to have a quick look at your wrist.
Also don’t be afraid of necklaces and
bracelets, a simple little chain around
your neck or just a plain bracelet can
really give an outfit that something extra.
