Kardinal Dr. Christoph
Schönborn
Erzbischof von Wien
Archbishop of Vienna
Musizieren, danke Ihnen allen sehr
für Ihren Einsatz und grüße Sie herzlich!
”I do not know any composer, apart from Schubert,
who presents a world of its own that is so
much beyond compare. For me, this is one of
the greatest mysteries in the history of music,”
Nikolaus Harnoncourt, the famous and recently
deceased conductor, admitted on one occasion.
And Ernst Krenek, expressing his admiration for
Franz Schubert, said: “He is one of those rare
figures for whose sake one can thank God for
creating the world.”
Yes, I have to confess as well that Schubert’s music
pulls at my heartstrings in a particularly intensive
way each time I listen to it. It is so intimate
and profound, so melancholy and so dramatic
in nature. His music is downright and utterly
“vox humana”, human voice, even in situations
in which it has to articulate most profound divine
mysteries, like in the ”Et incarnatus est“ in
Mass No. 6 in E-flat major. I feel very delighted
that this masterpiece has been selected for the
Sing Along Concert.
I wish you all the very best for the Franz Schubert
Choir Competition, especially in this anniversary
year, along with joy and deep-felt gratification
in making and listening to music together.
Thank you all so very much for your effort and
commitment!
