fence that was made of cement. After
roaming the area for a while, we then had
to start the construction. One of the tasks
I got was to help carry and transfer a sack
of cement and honestly I would consider it
as one of the hardest things that I had
done in my life. It was really heavy and
there were only 2 of us who carried that
sack. Another task was to mix the sand,
cement and water, which I thought was an
easy task but was truly hard and
complicated one. Even though complaining
was a natural thing for me but there I had
to forget about those things and remember
the mere reason we were there, to help
others. In our second fieldwork, which
was in Nagcarlan, Tarlac, we were expected
to take care and teach children some DIY
toys. This made me excited and all because
I love being with children and because they
are fun to be with. When we arrived, we
immediately saw the children and gathered
them. At first, they were all silent and shy.
They did not like talking to us or even
being with us. So to cope with them, I
immediately thought of the DIY toy that we
had planned to demonstrate and give to
them. After a while of working on the toy,
some of the children got curious and
decided to join us and ask us some
things. After that, all of us got comfortable
with each other, to the point that they
went wherever we went and walking while
holding our hands.
The journey we have been through
even though it was short and some of the
path was rough, still I enjoyed it and I am
very thankful because I had experienced
these things. There may be times that I am
often lazy and stubborn of some of the
tasks but when I think of the reason why I
do it, It constantly reminds me of other
people, of how they need my help and of
how I need to be the one to start the
change. Reminding myself of these made
me stronger and braver, it gave me the
drive to do things I was not sure I was
capable of and that is the thing I am most
grateful about NSTP-CWTS.
