made me cry. The UNIK seminar educated
us about voting. The seminar was perfect
because we are going to be voters soon,
and we need the right knowledge in order
to choose the best candidate we should
vote for. I know that if the right persons
become our government officials, then
poverty could soon be eradicated. Though,
the government has the capacity to make
nationwide changes, as individuals, we
also have the capacity to make a
difference. No matter how small it is, it still
counts. I think that this is what our
fieldworks are for. We had two (2)
fieldworks: one in Nueva Ecija, and the
other in Tarlac. In Zaragoza in Nueva
Ecija, there was this little elementary
school for children which had an
incomplete fence. We went there to
contribute in building that fence. We
mixed the cement and assembled the
hollow blocks. I know it’s something
simple, but that fence will help protect the
schoolchildren there from the dangers
outside the school. It’s something small,
but it’s a huge difference to the children. In
Nagcarlan in Tarlac, we entertained the
children while the other students prepared
their food. We entertained them by making
paper automaton toys. I’m sure the
children had fun, because I did too. I had
fun talking to them. Seeing them smile
made me happy on the inside. It was a
better experience than the one in Nueva
Ecija, because this time, we made physical
contact with the children. We listened to
their stories, and they listened to ours. It
was a very fulfilling experience.
When you give something to others,
some sort of fulfillment just comes out of
the blue. I think that it’s in our nature to
help others. We should not only think
about ourselves and making our lives
better because compared to others, we are
already living the good life. We should
share with them the same feeling that we
feel. Share with them some of our ‘life’. Leo
Buscaglia once said, “It's not enough to
have lived. We should be determined to live
for something. May I suggest that it be
creating joy for others, sharing what we
have for the betterment of person kind,
bringing hope to the lost and love to the
lonely.” We should never forget those
people who need us. They’re not expecting
something big from us. Giving them some
of our time would mean a huge thing to
them. And we would also benefit from it,
