A BIRD’S EYE VIEW OF THE AIMST UNIVERSITY

The AIMST University is just 16 years old; but, it is considered as one of the best universities among Malaysian universities. The purpose of this pictorial book is to document and highlight the exclusive infrastructure, the natural beauty, and the uniqueness of the AIMST University’s campus. The AIMST University is unique in a sense that it is built on a restored disturbed landscape for a meaningful purpose. Like other world-class universities, the AIMST University is determined to mould the lives of the young generation. The most important mission of the AIMST University is to make education affordable to the Malaysian and International students. Both, needy Malaysian and International students should take advantage of the affordable medical and non-medical degree programmes offered by the AIMST University. This book will be helpful to all students, parents, new-staff, netizens, potential collaborators of the university and readers in better understanding about the AIMST University and its exclusive infrastructure, facilities, unique architecture and the natural beauty of the campus.

A <strong>BIRD’S</strong> <strong>EYE</strong> <strong>VIEW</strong> <strong>OF</strong><br />

<strong>THE</strong> <strong>AIMST</strong> <strong>UNIVERSITY</strong><br />

The 17 th August, 2008 was a very special<br />

day for the <strong>AIMST</strong> University. Because, on<br />

August 17, 2008, YAB Dato’ Seri Abdullah<br />

Haji Ahmad Badawi, the then Prime Minister<br />

of Malaysia officiated the <strong>AIMST</strong> University’s<br />

new and permanent campus at Semeling,<br />

Kedah.<br />

After jubilant opening ceremony of the new<br />

and permanent campus, <strong>AIMST</strong> University<br />

was poised to celebrate its very special and<br />

important inaugural convocation which<br />

was held on 17 th October 2008. In this<br />

Inaugural Convocation, <strong>AIMST</strong> University<br />

proclaimed YBhg.Dato’ Seri S.Samy \/ellu as<br />

the Chancellor of the university.<br />

In the new campus, space was not an issue<br />

and each faculty and or school was growing<br />

rapidly. In 2009, ‘Paediatric Dentistry Clinic’<br />

and ‘Orthodontics Clinic’ were opened in<br />

the university’s Dental Centre for patient<br />

care and clinical teaching purpose. In year<br />

2010, the Faculty of Pharmacy (FoP) received<br />

the ’Certificate of Accreditation’ from the<br />

Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) to<br />

run the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) degree<br />

programme. In addition to it, FoP also<br />

received a certificate of recognition from the<br />

Pharmacy Board of Malaysia.<br />

Students are the real angels of the university;<br />

in 2010, <strong>AIMST</strong> University was really proud<br />

when the first cohort of medical graduates<br />

(Batch 1) joined the Ministry of Health as<br />

Medical Officers. In 2010, the first cohort<br />

of students from ‘Faculty of Dentistry (FoD)’<br />

and ‘School of Physiotherapy’ were also<br />

graduated.<br />

A meaningful and smart partnership is very<br />

important for each and every ‘institution<br />

of higher learning (IHL)’ in order to flourish<br />

and make a recognizable impact in society<br />

and education Industry. <strong>AIMST</strong> University<br />

established a meaningful collaborations<br />

with several academic and non-academic<br />

institutions including various local and<br />

international Biotechnology based companies<br />

and business schools. In this line, in 2011,<br />

the 1 st batch of <strong>AIMST</strong> business students<br />

was sent to Bordeaux Management School<br />

Bordeaux Management School (BEM), France<br />

under student mobility programme of the<br />

<strong>AIMST</strong> University.<br />

In 2011, the Faculty of Business and<br />

Management registered the first batch of<br />

students for its newly started MBA Healthcare<br />

Programme; Faculty of Medicine officially<br />

launched various MSc degree programmes<br />

such as MSc in Human Anatomy, Medical<br />

Physiology, Medical Biochemistry and<br />

Medical Microbiology after provisional<br />

accreditation by Ministry of Higher<br />

Education and Malaysian Qualifications<br />

Agency, (MQA), Malaysia. In order to make<br />

students competent enough, university does<br />

continual improvement of the curriculum.<br />

For instance, in 2011, the <strong>AIMST</strong> University<br />

was the first private university to adapt and<br />

adopt the Biotechnology Entrepreneurship
