Group 3: Zoo visitors as they left a facility
A total of 233 public surveys were completed, 127 in Group 2 (before entering the
zoo), and 106 in Group 3 (as the visitors left a zoo).
Female respondents made up 65%, male respondents 35%. Tourists (overseas or New
Zealanders out of local area) made up 9.4% of the sample. Age groups are shown in
Table 3.

Zoo visits
Respondents of Groups 2 and 3 were asked how many times a year they visited the
zoo (Figure 4) the highest majority was over a year between visits 30.9% (72/233),
the lowest was less than once per month 6.4% (15/233)
What was the most popular reason for their visit to the zoo (Figure 5) the majority
stated “fun” 36.1% (79/219), “education” 13.2% (29/219).
