Interest in New Zealand native species When respondents from Groups 2 and 3 were asked if they were interested in New Zealand Native species, 74.6% (173/232) answered yes. The respondents who answered no when asked if they were interested in New Zealand Native species were then asked to state why (Figure 6). The majority of respondents 55.2% (128/232) stated they liked all animals. There was no significant difference (G= .942, d.f = 2, p = .624) between gender and interest in New Zealand native species. Zoo visitor education /knowledge The respondents in Group 3 were asked if they read an information sign at the Kea enclosure, 51.1% (45/88) of visitors did not read a sign, 25% (22/88) did read a sign, and 23.9% (21/88) stated they did not see a sign. There was no significant difference in age groups reading an information sign (G = 10.963, d.f = 10, p = .360). Selected correct knowledge questions were analysed to investigate if differences between reading an information sign and not reading had any effect on increased knowledge (Table 4).
