<strong>Boeing</strong> announces the completion of a 20,500-square-foot satellite Mission Control Center in<br />

El Segundo, Calif. The center can manage up to four commercial or government satellite missions<br />

at the same time. The U.S. Air Force is expected to be the first customer.<br />

<strong>Boeing</strong> begins major assembly on the first 747-8 Freighter.<br />

<strong>Boeing</strong> completes the first <strong>Boeing</strong> Business Jet 3. The airplane is based on a Next-Generation<br />

737-900ER (Extended Range) airplane.<br />

The U.S. Army awards <strong>Boeing</strong> a $36 million contract for a truck-mounted, high-energy laser weapon<br />

system that will destroy rockets, artillery shells and mortar rounds.<br />

Bahrain’s national carrier, Gulf Air, orders an additional eight 787 Dreamliners. Upon successful<br />

conclusion of negotiations with the airline, Gulf Air will have 24 787s on order.<br />

<strong>Boeing</strong>, through its commercial launch business, successfully launches the GeoEye-1 satellite aboard a<br />

Delta II rocket. GeoEye-1 will have the highest resolution of any commercial imaging system.<br />

<strong>Boeing</strong> acquires Insitu Inc., a pioneer in the unmanned air systems market.<br />

<strong>Boeing</strong> delivers its 200,000th JDAM tail kit.<br />

<strong>Boeing</strong> delivers the second of two mission system simulators, part of the upgrade of NATO’s 17 E-3A<br />

AWACS aircraft.<br />

Phantom Works and NASA researchers successfully stall and recover unmanned, remotely piloted<br />

X-48B research aircraft during two flights as they study aerodynamic characteristics of the<br />

blended wing.<br />

An international consortium of 10 NATO members, joined by Partnership for Peace nations Sweden and<br />

Finland, orders three C-17 Globemaster III long-range cargo jets.<br />

NASA awards <strong>Boeing</strong> a $650 million sole-source contract to continue to deliver and integrate<br />

components and software for the International Space Station.<br />
