Bomber program.<br />
With support from <strong>Boeing</strong>, pilot Tracey Curtis-Taylor takes off on a 7,000-mile (11,000-kilometer) solo<br />
journey in a reconditioned <strong>Boeing</strong> Stearman open-cockpit biplane, retracing Lady Mary Heath’s historic<br />
1928 flight between South Africa and the United Kingdom.<br />
Etihad Airways announces an order for 30 787-10 Dreamliners. With this order, the 787 reaches a sales<br />
milestone — 1,000 airplanes. The 787 Dreamliner family has reached 1,000 sales faster than any other<br />
wide-body airplane in aviation <strong>history</strong>.<br />
Nov. 17: The 777X program is launched at the Dubai Airshow and wins orders and commitments for 259<br />
airplanes, representing a combined value of more than $95 billion at list prices. It is the largest product<br />

<strong>Boeing</strong> chooses the Bombardier Challenger 605 business jet as the platform for its Maritime<br />
Surveillance Aircraft program.<br />
<strong>Boeing</strong> subsidiary Spectrolab sets a new world record by producing a solar cell that converts<br />
38.8 percent of solar energy into electricity, more than any other ground-based solar cell not using<br />
concentrated sunlight.<br />
The first <strong>Boeing</strong> Inmarsat-5 satellite launches and sends signals from orbit, the initial step to establishing<br />
Global Xpress, the world’s first globally available high-speed mobile broadband service for government<br />
and commercial users.<br />
The <strong>Boeing</strong> board of directors authorizes an additional $10 billion for the company’s share repurchase<br />
plan and declares that the company’s regular quarterly dividend will increase by approximately 50<br />
percent to 73 cents per share.<br />
Dennis A. Muilenburg is promoted to the positions of vice chairman, president and chief operating<br />
officer. He will share oversight with Jim McNerney of the day-to-day business operations of<br />
