Digital vs. Flexo
in Packaging and Point Of Sale
Flexo dominates packaging but has been usurped in display
and POS where inkjet has grabbed value and opened new
opportunities. Will the same happen in packaging, or does
analogue offer insurmountable advantages of cost and quality?
There are many reasons to maintain the status quo. Spot
colours and print quality are important, there are ink
migration/food safety concerns and in flexible multi-layer
constructions and coatings must be compatible with the toner
or inks in digital. But digital offers new opportunities – cost
effective short runs, versioning and personalisation that can
be tailored to locations or events, increasing the consumer
engagement. drupa will see new digital packaging production
systems, along with the latest analogue offerings – be open
and make your mind up which provides the best future
business opportunities.
