Burlanes
Right: The first and most important step when
planning your new kitchen is to create a layout
that makes the best use of the space. The kitchen
is the central point of your home where a lot of
activities take place — cooking, cleaning, eating,
drinking and socialising. It needs to be both
beautiful and functional and storage is key!
‘Work out what’s really important to you,’ says
Lindsey, Burlanes’ head designer. ‘Is it major
storage? Do you dislike having anything out on
the worktop? Then focus on the available space.’
Utilise an unused room with a walk-in larder.
A custom-made breakfast cupboard is perfect
for keeping everything neatly hidden away and
with pull-out drawers for maximum storage. And
the ultimate concealed storage... a hidden utility
room in your kitchen.
Left: Clever cupboards make the most of even
the tiniest, awkward spaces, as shown here by
this compact spice cupboard tucked into the side
of the cooker alcove. Features such as slots for
individual spice jars help to keep the contents
tidy and secure.
Where there is cooking, there is inevitably
rubbish – so tucking your bins away under the
kitchen counter is a great solution, keeping the
rubbish out of sight but the bin instantly to hand.
