Community Impact: Studies show that there are positive health benefits
linked to volunteerism, including a reduction in mortality, increases in
physical function, muscular strength and levels of self-rated health.
Volunteering also reduces symptoms of depression and increases lifeexpectancy
which improves health outcomes and cost savings.
Story
As an RSVP volunteer in the Food Pantry, I am
thrilled to contribute to a service that provides aid
to individuals. I believe the core of being a
volunteer is giving back to the community the good
you have received from others. My work increases
my self-esteem; I make friends with many people in
our community; and in turn, assist the agency.
Being a volunteer also led me to the Home Care
program. When my wife had mobility problems
after knee surgery, my first thought was to ask for
help at Mature Services. We were fortunate to have
easy access to home care. I have time for volunteer
work, and my wife is very grateful for the support
that helps her remain independent.
