Report on Advertising
A magazine is not to be only composed of words and articles. We need to expand beyond
such to include those attracted by visual stimulations. I am more compelled to read a magazine
with ads because it gives my eyes the chance to rest while also still learning something. Ads also
make the magazine seem smaller, not so intimidating, and simply becomes much easier to read.
Beginning with our introductory ad, it is a sort of throwback. As the first typewriter was
introduced in 1714, almost 302 years ago. Maybe it is my new generation self that is talking, but
typewriters are outdated. Only being used by savvy hipsters and those who clutch onto them
refusing to acknowledge modern forms of typing. This was included in our final product release
as it is one of the first pages you see, the nostalgia of this will draw the attention of the older
generations while the ad being written by the Government of Canada with draw the attention of
young adults and adults as messages from such a higher power are taken seriously. Our target
audience is broad, technology is limited to no one. Though we will test methods to draw in
certain people. This ad will be one of them.
Our secondary ad, which was placed a little ways away from the first one in the final
copy is simple. Simple will do the job as more complex things can not only confuse people, but
turn them off. The ad represents Expedia, a well-known travel company. Who doesn’t want to
travel? This ad again like the first has no particular audience. It is what we call an impulse ad.
Meaning it gets you thinking about travelling, maybe you have no self-control and will book a
flight the next day. Maybe you weren’t financially ready for it, but the ad did its job.
Moving on to our third ad, we come to a small announcement for a concert coming in
2017 that the band known as “The turtles” will be using to promote their new album “The
Milton’s”. This is one of our ads that we placed in the final that actually in a way had a specific
target audience. The most common age group at concerts now a days who have modern singers
performing, are teenagers and young adults. As popular music now a days does not always
appeal to the older generations, I honestly can’t blame them. This was used to appeal to a young
demographic as it seems to be a trend to randomly go and find weird new concerts to go to. It
