She had just stated the obvious. As everything around us becomes faster and smarter and life is going past almost at the speed of light, there are days when one feels overwhelmed by it all. In an achievement oriented society, where designations, money, luxury holidays are all metrics of success, the race for the top starts early. The "Aarogya Bharat" report by the Healthcare Federation of India (NATHEALTH) states, “With one in every five person in India suffering from some form of mental disorder, mental health-related costs would account for 20 percent of economic loss from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) between 2012 and 2030. Management consulting firm Bain & Company estimated an economic loss of $6.2 trillion due to NCDs between 2012 and 2030 as reported in a Business Standard column. Mental illness or stress has not yet been given the status of a disease or an ailment. Hence most of the actions are reactive rather than preventive. But given the magnitude of the problem and its ramifications, it is now hard to ignore this malaise plaguing the urban worker. Working February 2016 | 17
