Roaming on the streets
of London, a devout of
Lord Krishna, Kavita
carried his idol with her
everywhere. Nestled
comfortably in a stylish bag,
swaying in her arms, the adobe
of the lord earned Kavita many
appreciative glances and some
very encouraging remarks on
the bag. This bag was designed,
crafted and stitched by Kavita
herself.
When love and skill work
together, expect a masterpiece.
And in Kavita’s studio in
Bangalore, the masterpieces
are the handcrafted bags made
of cotton, jute and minimal
synthetic leather. The designer
turned entrepreneur, Kavita
Jain is the face, spirit and
colour behind her own venture,
Needle Doodle. With a sewing
machine, colourful fabrics,
carefully chosen
embellishments and of course
needles, she creates visually
stunning bags. And what adds
to the appeal of the bags is
their attention to detail and the
unique blend of colour, fabric,
interesting shapes and the
intricate dance of the needle
around the bag.
Born and bought up in the
scenic milieu of Meghalaya,
Kavita was blessed with
golden fingers, a gene she
inherited from her mother. “I
have grown up seeing my
mother doing creative things.
And my childhood was also
filled with art, craft, colour and
music.” As a child she had
been taught to sew, and often
