Gurnee Park District Summer 2016 Program and Events Guide

Quickstart Tennis
Discover your child’s passion for
tennis in this program designed
for players four to10 years
old. Students will develop skills
with age appropriate equipment and court size. Various
levels are offered to teach just the right skill set to your
tennis player. Learn the game as well as improve your
grip, forehand and backhand strokes, serving, net play
and scoring. Participants should bring their own racquets.
Classes are based on the National Tennis Rating Program
(NTRP). Contracted through Midwest Tennis Programs, LLC. (CM)
Pee Wee/Parent Child (NTRP 1.0): Find out if your child
enjoys tennis in this program perfect for kids aged three
to six years old. There will be an emphasis on fun and
development of coordination and motor skills.
Beginner (NTRP 1.0-1.9): Perfect for those who have never
played tennis. An emphasis will be placed on hand-eye
coordination, racquet skills, stroke production with a focus
on ground strokes as well as serve, return and volleys.
Court position, scoring and singles/doubles strategies are
introduced.
Beginner-Advanced Beginner (NTRP 2.0-2.4): Excellent for
those who had basic instruction but, need further review of
fundamentals. Stoke development, footwork, strategy and
match play are included in the instruction.
Advanced Beginner - Intermediate (NTRP 2.5-2.9): Has your
child developed more dependable strokes, but they are
still working to keep the ball in play with others of the same
ability? If so, this is just the right class for them. Lessons
include instruction on stroke development, footwork,
cooperative consistency drills and strategy.

Middle/High School Tennis Camp
This new program provides the opportunity for Middle
School and High School students to enjoy the fun of
learning and playing a lifetime sport. All aspects of the
game of tennis are covered. Students receive one hour
of instruction and one hour of match play. Please wear
court shoes and bring a racket and water. Tennis balls and
all other supplies will be provided. Contracted through
Midwest Tennis Programs, LLC. (CM)

Beginning Junior Golf Lessons
This program is designed for children to help teach them
the fundamentals of the game. Parents participate with
their child while the instructor teaches the basics of golf.
We keep it simple and fun. The basics of putting, chipping
and golf swing are all integrated in this program. Clubs and
balls are provided. Contracted through Bittersweet Golf
Club. (RD)
