The World Championship Series of the
International Triathlon Union (ITU) will
culminate in the finals held in Budapest.
The race is the seventh in the series and
will determine this year’s best triathletes
in the Olympic distance, which consists of
a 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike and 10 km run.

Cycling events of 100, 50 and 25 miles have
become hugely popular in North America,
attracting thousands of participants who
ride their chosen distance solo or as a
member of a team. In September, the
Centurion tour will move to the Blue
Mountains in Ontario, Canada.

CHAMPIONSHIPS
Nanning in China will host the traditional
IAAF World Half Marathon Championships
in mid-October. The World Championship
titles are of great interest to the world’s
best long-distance runners, drawing the
cream of the crop to the start line. A year
ago, the gold medals went to Zersenay
Tadese from Eritrea and Mary Jepkosgei
Keitany from Kenya.

GIRO DI LOMBARDIA
Giro di Lombardia is the last major oneday
event in the international road racing
calendar. The event, which dates back over
100 years and takes place on demanding
routes in northern Italy, is also known as
the “Race of the Falling Leaves” because of
the season. In 2009, Philippe Gilbert from
Belgium brought an end to the nearly
decade-long winning streak enjoyed by the
Italians.
