Library Accepts School Supplies
Baxter Springs - If anyone would
like to donate school supplies to
Baxter Springs elementary students,
the Library has a small
School Supply Donation Center
set up in our main room.
It's been there since last spring
and stays up year round.
They accept small toiletry items,
individual wrapped snack items,
school supplies, and Boxtops for
Education.
All donations go to students at
U.S.D. 508.
If you have questions about
the donation box or have a large
amount to donate please call
ahead to make arrangements.
Baxter Springs - If you've been
reading this paper for long... well its
still new so I won't blame you if you
missed it, but the Johnston Public
Library is in need of assistance.
For those that have not seen the
blurb at the end of each story about
the Library's summer programs,
their elevator was damaged in the
floods last winter.
Currently the donations for the repairs
have slowed. So if you happen

change feel free to stop by either the
Library or American Bank and drop
it off for the Elevator Fund. Your
donations are greatly appreciated.
For that matter if you have not
been to the Library in a while or
if you know someone who hasn't
been able to go because the elevator
is out, stop by and pickup a book
for them. If you're not careful you
might learn something.

Baxter Springs -The Baxter
Springs Police Department held
their drawing for Hunting Package
they had setup with Show-Me
Birds.
The packaged included: dinner
at Old Chicago, a nights stay at
LaQuinta, Fishing on privately
stocked ponds, multiple rounds of
skeet shooting and pheasant hunt
to wrap it all up. The package was
for one adult and one youth to be
used during October.
The proceeds from the drawing
are going to be used to purhcase
gear for the Reserve Officers -
which volunteer their time to keep
all of us safe. Yep, that's right they
are not paid a penny to cover our
butts. Any way back to the story,
the department held their drawing
BSPD Announces Winners
Saturday at the PD and Kyle Wade
won. Congrats Kyle and thank
you to all who purchased tickets.
Remember the next time you see
an officer, it might be a volunteer
and always say thanks to all the
emergency crews, it might make
their day.

Technical Education (K-ACTE)
during an awards ceremony that
took place at the CTE Summer
Conference of the K-ACTE on
Monday, August 1, 2016 at 9:00
a.m. in Wichita, Kansas.
The K-ACTE Awards
promote excellence in career and
technical education. K-ACTE
recognizes individuals who have
made extraordinary contributions
to CTE, programs that exemplify
the highest standards, and organizations
that have conducted
activities to promote and expand
CTE programs. Award winners
serve as inspirational leaders to
ACTE: they embody the core values
of serving their students and
being committed to CTE. Award
candidates are evaluated based
on accomplishments and innovations
that exhibit the quality of the
candidate for the award and contributions
to the CTE community,
which could include activities
within their institutions, communities,
Association for Career &
Technical Education (ACTE),
K-ACTE, and other organizations.
