Winterfest Weekend<br />

Get rid of the winter blahs with this weekend long celebration, featuring a comedian, Winter Wonderland, films, step<br />

show, live music, ice skating, giveaways, and other activities.<br />

Springfest Weekend<br />

Throwing away the winter blahs and celebrating the return of sunny weather to the UofR campus. Weekend starts with<br />

Dandelion Day on Friday and continues with lots of fun events to get out in the sunshine.<br />

CAMPUS TRADITIONS<br />

Tropicana<br />

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month through performances, speakers and a dinner dance. The elegant dinner brings the<br />

campus together for a night of authentic Latino food and music. Sponsored by SALSA (Spanish and Latino Students<br />

Association).<br />

Kwanzaa<br />

Kwanzaa--or first fruits, is an African American holiday celebrating family, community and culture. Sponsored by The<br />

Black Student’s Union, this annual event brings the campus and greater Rochester community together for dinner and<br />

featured performances.<br />

China Nite<br />

An authentic Chinese dinner, followed by a show with music, dance, comedy and featured performances by <strong>student</strong>s,<br />

staff and community members. Sponsored by Chinese Students Association.<br />

Korea Night<br />

Rounding out the festivities in March is Korea Night. This annual event features hilarious skits, great songs, and<br />

traditional dances. Sponsored by Korean American Students Association.<br />

Mela<br />

Mela is a cultural extravaganza that draws almost 1,000 people who enjoy <strong>student</strong> performances of singing, exotic<br />

melodies, powerful dances, and skits. Mela also includes a cultural dinner of authentic Indian food and a late night party.<br />

Sponsored by ADITI (Association for the Development of Interest in the Indian Subcontinent).<br />

Relay for Life<br />

From night until dawn hundreds of <strong>student</strong>s, with their teams, fundraise for the American Cancer Society, participate in<br />

activities and ceremonies, and walk laps around a track, symbolizing that “the fight against cancer never sleeps.” This<br />

spring event brings the campus together to remember lost loved ones and to appreciate the survivors of cancer.<br />

Sponsored by Colleges Against Cancer.<br />

Earth Fest<br />

A celebration of creativity and life where community businesses, sustainable <strong>student</strong> projects, and educational activities<br />

are found all around campus. The program highlights the successes and struggles of environmental prosperity that<br />

impact all <strong>student</strong>s, faculty, and staff. Sponsored by Grassroots.<br />

find out information about concerts, speakers, and other events which will happen throughout the fall and spring<br />

semesters. Some are noted on the calendar pages in UR Here, and others will be advertised closer to the event. Eric<br />

Hutchinson, Girl Talk, Iron & Wine, Humans of New York creator Brandon Stanton, Bill Nye the Science Guy, LMFAO,<br />

Busta Rhymes, Nick Offerman, Craig Ferguson and Stephen Colbert have been here recently! Keep your eyes peeled for<br />
