Open Recreation space is kept available throughout the day whenever possible. For a special event, you may<br />
reserve activity spaces if you are a recognized Student’s Association Club. Please contact our Reservations Office<br />
at 275-9465 at least three business days in advance. During the year the Department of Athletics and Recreation<br />
also extends the use of its facilities to the Rochester community for very special events such as high school<br />
championships and local youth group activities. Notifications are posted and may be confirmed by calling the<br />
Department of Athletics and Recreation Information Desk at 275-7643.<br />

The Recreational Sports Program offers opportunities to participate in Intramurals and Group Fitness Classes, Club<br />
Sports and Open Recreation. Approximately 3,500 <strong>student</strong>s enjoy the multiple sports and activities in Intramurals.<br />
League play is available in traditional sports such as basketball, volleyball, floor hockey, soccer, flag football, and<br />
ultimate Frisbee. Intramural Sports also offers Group Fitness Classes. Club Sports are independent, <strong>student</strong>-directed, and<br />
governed sporting groups which are organized and operated under the joint auspices of the Department of Athletics and<br />
Recreation and the Office of Student Activities. Leadership, teamwork, competition, and fun add deep intrinsic value to<br />
this unique program. The Department also makes every effort to reserve Open Recreational Space for self-directed<br />
activity.<br />
STUDENT EMPLOYMENT: WHAT’S AVAILABLE WITHIN ATHLETICS AND RECREATION?<br />
With so many events and activities happening, opportunities for <strong>student</strong> involvement through employment are readily<br />
available. The Department of Athletics and Recreation hires approximately 300 <strong>student</strong>s in the areas of fitness monitors,<br />
intramural sports supervisors, aerobics instructors, <strong>student</strong> trainers, building managers, facility rental supervisors, and<br />
intercollegiate game management. Current certification in Adult CPR is required to be hired. Applications are available at<br />

As a graduate <strong>student</strong> you have several housing options, including University graduate <strong>student</strong> housing, mixed<br />
<strong>student</strong>/employee housing or off-campus housing. The University Apartments Office can help <strong>student</strong>s locate oncampus<br />
