Workshop Topics:<br />

There will be a number of workshops held during the Symposium which aim to:<br />

• Disseminate information back to Symposium delegates about key health issues;<br />

• Identify the needs of different organisations, congregations; and,<br />

• Generate discussions about potential solutions to health issues.<br />

Breakout Session One:<br />

Ethnic Specific Forum<br />

<strong>We</strong>dnesday 22nd November, 1.00 pm – 2.30 pm<br />

The ethnic-specific forum will provide delegates with an opportunity to breakout into their ethnicgroups<br />

and discuss issues around lifestyle choices within their cultural contexts.<br />

Topic for Discussion:<br />

<strong>What</strong> actions will our community need to take to ensure healthier lifestyles for the next generation?<br />

Consider:<br />

• Integrating “spiritual”,“mental” and “physical” health care practices to help charter a new health<br />

direction for our future generation;<br />

• Adapting our cultural values and practices to assist and to ensure healthier lifestyles for Pacific<br />

peoples; and,<br />

• Balancing our responsibilities to care for our families with our socio-cultural obligations and practices<br />

such reciprocity and giving.<br />

Physical in-activity, cardiovascular risk factors, high stress levels and family violence are a few health<br />

issues impacting on Pacific men and their families. This workshop will consist of a panel discussion on<br />

these issues and how the church can support Pacific men and their families to live healthier lifestyles.<br />
