California Casualty offers athletic grants
The Thomas R. Brown Athletics Grants are awarded to select
public middle and high school athletics programs. The awards
must be used to help subsidize school sports programs in ways
such as purchasing new equipment or paying for competition
travel costs. The grant cannot be used for individual student
awards. Grant recipients must be NEA members.
Five schools in New Jersey received a grant this year: Kearny
High School, Edison High School, John P. Stevens High School
(also in Edison), Rahway High School and Linden High School.

The annual deadline for the grants is Jan. 15. Applications are
being accepted now for next year’s grant program. Only grant requests
for public middle and high school athletics programs will
be considered. Grant recipients must be NEA members.

Don’t let students go hungry this summer
Many students rely on school meals to get the nutrition they
need to grow, be healthy and succeed in school. In the summer,
these children lack access to those meals and families struggle to
put food on the table.
The federal summer meals program provides a solution to
summertime hunger for kids. But last year, just 19 percent of eligible
children in New Jersey received these meals.
The New Jersey Food for Thought Campaign and the New
Jersey Department of Agriculture are launching a campaign to
spread the word to parents about these programs and we need
your help. More information and outreach materials, including
