Relay for Life
Hempfield Area School District
Heavy rain and thunderstorms did not
hinder the excitement of this year’s Relay For
Life of Greensburg event which took place on
June 11 & 12, 2016, at Hempfield Area High
School. The carnival-themed event, moved
inside to the field house because of weather,
was a huge success with over 1,113 participants on forty-eight teams, raising
$186,895.71 to help finish the fight against cancer. Local communities, schools,
and businesses joined together as they walked laps, played games, and raised
funds for the American Cancer Society. During the 24-hour event , over one
hundred and fifty survivors were recognized from the local communities, and
more than 1,200 luminaria bags were lit to honor and remember loved ones with
cancer who fought back against the disease. For more information or to become

each school building, staff
members contribute donations
in an effort to raise
funds for local charities
and families in need. Some
of the schools have collected
as much as $4,000 in a year
and have made contributions to
charities such as The Blackburn
Center, Westmoreland County Food
Bank, Relay for Life of Greensburg
(American Cancer Society), Multiple
Myeloma Research Foundation, Jayme’s
Team, Jereme Dudzinski Foundation, Children’s
Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, memorial
funds, and their own families in need.

Caleb Remaley (Stanwood Elementary), Jacob Remaley (West Hempfield Middle),
and their mom, Dana Remaley, who works at West Hempfield Middle School,
donated 9”, 12”, and 10” of hair, respectively, for the Pantene Great Lengths Hair
Donation Program. All three are members of the West Hempfield Middle School
