Imperial Bird of Prey Academy
The Imperial Bird of Prey Academy, based here at Barleylands Farm Park, was founded in 2011 by well-known
and respected falconer, Nigel King.
The Academy has rapidly grown into a fantastic visitor attraction, performing flying demonstrations daily
throughout the peak periods, as well as boasting an accomplished off-site flying team. The team is often at
schools, universities and other Shows educating children and adults alike in raptor conservation.
With conditions being right we could see some amazing aerial prowess from the team’s falcons this weekend.
These include ‘Grace’, the Academy’s amazing Kestrel – a bird often seen hovering alongside our motorways...
and perhaps ‘Storm’ the Gyr falcon (The biggest falcon in the world!)
The Academy’s Barn Owls ‘Magic’ and ‘Mystic’ will also be seen quartering the arena. For the romantics out there
you may be interested to know that they are also ring bearers at wedding ceremonies!
The Academy houses a number of different types of raptor including Gonzo the Hooded Vulture. Gonzo was
taken on by Imperial after recovering from cancer; he even completed the ‘Race for Life’ that took place at
Barleylands a few years ago!
This weekend Imperial Bird of Prey Academy will be performing 2 flying demonstrations each day in the main
ring and have a daily static display for all to enjoy! Why not pop over to the stand to say hello to both the birds
and team!
