Showman’s Engines<br />

Steam power entered into the fairground in the nineteenth century. Steam not only provided a method of driving<br />

engines, but transportation from place to place and the power to light the rides and the fairground.<br />

Woodsawing Demonstration<br />

The wood sawing demonstration is being operated by Steve White, Upminster. The method on show is demonstrating<br />

the traditional way of wood sawing.<br />

Threshing Demonstration<br />

Threshing Machines work by knocking out the grain from the ears of the wheat, leaving the stalks to be used for<br />

animal bedding. It took around 7 people to run the Threshing Machine, including one person to look after the steam<br />

engine, one to put the wheat into the machine, at least three people on the wheat stacks, one person putting the grain<br />

into sacks and someone to take the chaff away.<br />

This year’s Threshing Demonstrations will be taking place between 11am – 12pm and 2pm – 3pm<br />
