Walking in Circles
A co-worker was telling me recently how studies have shown that
when individuals do not have external reference points, they wander in
circles. One study showed that those who walked in overcast conditions
tended to walk in circles, but those who had the reference points
of the sun or moon did a better job of walking fairly straight. Even
though the individuals thought they were walking straight, without a
point of reference, they just ended up going in circles.
As we were talking about this natural phenomenon, I realized that
there is an analogy to this in our lives as well. When individuals go
through life with no point of reference, and they just “give it their best
shot,” the tendency is to “walk in circles.” Even with the best intentions,
if there isn't a point of reference, all of us will flounder. It's sad to see
someone wander through life, but when we think of eternity, it's disastrous.
Just “hoping” we will get to heaven, won't work. God's Word
says, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end
thereof are the ways of death.” (Proverbs 14:12)
What should our point of reference be for life? There are some things
that we can rely on—some things that do not change. God and His
Word are reliable. “Even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art
God.” (Psalm 90:2) “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today,
and for ever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
If we focus on things around us to try to keep our bearings, we will be
in trouble. Philosophies come and go so quickly, and there is such
rapid change all around us. But when we lift our eyes to the God of
heaven and earth, we have found a point of reference that will not
change and will not fade away. “The grass withereth, the flower
fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.” (Isaiah 40:8)
FAMILY FEATURES
Next time you reach for a snack,
go for a great-tasting option
that delivers on both flavor and
nutrition. Sensible snacks can
be surprisingly delicious when you choose
ingredients wisely.
One pop-ular choice: popcorn. Ideal for
between-meal snacking since it satisfies
but doesn’t spoil the appetite, popcorn is
also the perfect addition to treats such as
snack bars and trail mix. The key to smart
snacking is finding good-for-you ingredients
that make your body healthy and your taste
buds happy.
With no artificial additives or preserva -
tives, popcorn is naturally low in fat and
calories. The whole grain provides energyproducing
complex carbohydrates and
contains fiber, providing roughage the
body needs in the daily diet.
like the disappointment of burnt
popcorn. Follow these simple steps
every time.
n Whether on the stove or in the
Sharon Fletcher
Persons turning 65 have a six-month window to choose a Medicare Supplement and Prescription Drug Plan (PDP). This is
especially important if you have health conditions—because after this time period, if you want a supplement, you will be underwritten
(asked health questions), and you may not be able to get one.
So, this is an important time for you to consider what type of Medicare Plan you want and can afford. That’s what I do...I help and advise what might be your best
bet—but only you can decide if you want a Supplement or Medicare Advantage Plan, which is different.
Annual Election Period (AEP) for Medicare is coming fast: October 15-December 7. During this period, many people review their current plans and prescription
plans.
I am also helping companies with people over 65 who are still employed and on group insurance. Some companies are deciding to offer Medicare coverage
instead of the group plan, which often makes sense for both the company and employee. I can provide details on that process called Medicare Carve-Out.
I also help billing departments at hospitals, doctors’ offices and other medical facilities with their Medicare questions and advise on which plans might be best for
their patients’ consideration.
