Make a date in Cheshire
There’s fun to be had throughout September and October in
Cheshire. With events, festivals and attractions all over the
county, there are unmissable days out right on your doorstep.
Don’t miss these highlights:
The Nantwich Food Festival takes over Nantwich’s historic town
centre from 2nd – 4th September, with tons of local and national
producers and artisans mingling with the town’s independent
shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.
There’s still a chance to catch some giant jurassic creatures at
Chester Zoo’s Dinosaurs: The Next Adventure, but you’d better
hurry before they disappear on 4th September. It’s the zoo’s
largest and most fearsome collection yet, with a terrifying lifesize
Giganotosaurus and a very ill-mannered Baryonyx.
The country’s biggest cycling event comes to Cheshire, as the
Tour of Britain winds its way from Congleton to Tatton Park on
6th September.
For a more leisurely pursuit, Tatton Park’s Outdoor Cinema is
screening three silver-screen classics, Top Gun, Dirty Dancing and
the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, from 9th – 11th
September. Full details at www.thelunacinema.com.
Also at Tatton Park, the Cheshire Decorative Antiques and Art Fair
returns from the 16th – 17th September, bringing together a huge
array of antiques and artworks, including many truly rare pieces.
Pull on your running shoes for the MBNA Chester Marathon on
2nd October. Starting
and finishing at Chester
Racecourse, the route takes in all the
city’s iconic landmarks and the picturesque
surrounding countryside.
For those who prefer a little more horsepower, the Dayinsure
Wales Rally GB roars into action from 27th – 30th October. The
penultimate round of the World Rally Championship features
stages in North Wales and a fun family event at Cholmondeley
Castle.
Treat your tastebuds with The Food and Gift Fair, Tatton Park
from 29th & 30th October, with mini shops chock full of
specialist traders from all over the north west,
with everything from chocolates and
cheese to original art and fashion.
Finally, those with a strong
constitution can embark on a special
Halloween Ghost Tour of Chester on
31st October. Your ghoulish guide will
take you on a nighttime journey through
the city’s gruesome past, and some of its
most haunted spots.
Autumn Style from Cheshire Oaks
September marks the beginning of Autumn, and our friends at Cheshire Oaks Designer
Outlet are back with some top trend advice for the coming months:
Autumn is a great time of year to go shopping, with new trends, a new colour palette and
lush fabrics in the shops. It’s the time that we invest in fashion staples, like the classic
white shirt, the timeless wool coat or that perfect piece of knitwear.
Here are the season’s must-have trends:
The Great Coat - This season, designers are putting the ‘great’ back in great coat, with
exaggerated proportions and subtle embellishments. This season, the classic
investment piece has gone for forest browns and greens, or go next level with a wild cat
print.
The Evening Dress - Oh yes, evening dresses are back on the catwalk. This season’s
collections emphasised elongated silhouettes and classical details. Keep your eyes
peeled for lavish embroidery, brocades, floral details and sumptuous velvets in deep
blue, rich red and black.
Velvet - Velvet is the big takeaway from the AW16 shows. Vast swathes of the stuff in
all colours and styles. Sporty silhouettes are updated with sumptuous
velvets, and tailored cuts in devoré velvet achieve a unique sartorial
elegance. Look for party wear in deep purples and rich reds.
Gold - Sophisticated and opulent, gold is back on the
agenda this autumn. Metallic threads and liquid velvet
add special appeal, while shimmering sequins, lamé
and coated materials in golden hues take your party
wear up a notch.
