BEAR
My buddy Puddles and I used
to live in the same home. We
had to be surrendered when our
humans moved to a no-cat housing
situation. Sometimes things
happen that prevent people from
being able to take their loved
ones....even when they try. My
humans say I'm bright. (Just saying.)
I love to socialize and play.
One exception: I would prefer to
go to a home with no dogs.

WHY ADOPT AN ADULT
CAT?
Kittens sure are cute and wonderful
in their own way, but there
are definite advantages to adopting
an adult cat. What are they?
We interviewed this week's highlighted
cats to find out.
Puddles: You know what our
personality is going to be. Kittens
are still developing, and how they
act may change. Shy? Aggressive?
Cuddly? Playful? Who can tell
how they'll turn out? With us, you
pretty much know.
Bear: We won't chew up the
place. We're not exploring the
world with our mouths, like kittens
and your babies -- we're all
through with that -- so your shoes
are safe with us.
Lyra: We don't tend to do crazy
stuff that lands us at the vet, like
chewing on electrical cords, or
misjudging our jumping ability
and falling. Our wisdom and experience
tells us not to do such
dangerous things.
KEYS TO HEALTH
Autumn is here, and with it
some things to be aware of in
order to keep your feline and other
pet friends safe.
Mouse poison - As the weather
cools, mice seek warm places,
maybe within your home. If you
prefer not to have them as roommates,
choose a way to uninvite
them that doesn't involve poison
because it is also dangerous for
pets. We suggest always considering
safe, humane pest removal.
Symptoms of poison ingestion
can include lethargy, pale gums,
and blood in feces.
Chrysanthemums - They're
lovely to brighten the place up, but
their stems and leaves can cause
your pet skin irritation, increased
levels of saliva, loss of balance,
vomiting, and diarrhea.
Fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes
carrying heartworm - They're still
a concern this time of year. Fleas
hang out in damp leaf piles, ticks
hang out in spots where delicious
animals travel by, rest, and eat, and
all three insects are active when it's
above 40 or 50 degrees, including
in your home. Symptoms include
itching, lethargy, weight loss, and
more.

$49 charge, which includes initial
and follow-up calls with experts.
DONATIONS WELCOMED! We
always need litter (Petco’s scoopable
is ideal). We have empty
containers on top of the cage at
the back of the shelter that you
can take to the litter section of the
store. We also need canned and
hard food for the feral colonies our
volunteers look after. Good old
checks are also quite welcomed
- they can help defray our costs .
