Typical items that are in highdemand
at the pantry include
canned fruit, canned meat, dry
milk and meat soups. There is also
a constant need for dry cereal,
which was addressed in a big way
this summer.
“We were contacted by Fox 25
News before their ZipTrip to Norwood
[in August]”, Zafft said. “We
had a cereal drive where those
attending were asked to bring a
healthy box of cereal. We received
more than 240 boxes.”

“Learn the ABCs of the CPA” is a forum designed to
help Norwood’s voting public gather information about the
Community Preservation Act (CPA). Question 5, is on the
ballot for the November 8 election. This event will take place
Wednesday, October 19, 7 p.m., in the Norwood Police and
Fire Station, Community Room, located at 136 Nahatan St.
The League has arranged a panel of speakers to provide
information about the benefits and negative sides of adopting
the law, how the surcharge will be assessed to residents,
and how the CPA has evolved in a neighboring community,
which adopted the CPA three years ago. Each speaker will
present information, and there will be a question and answer
period following the presentations.
The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan, political
organization founded in 1920 – the year that women were
granted the right to vote. The purposes of the League of
Women Voters are twofold: (1) Voter Service: to promote
informed, active citizen participation in government; and
(2) Inform and Educate: to influence public policy through
education and advocacy, and to take positions on substantive
issues after careful study, which may or may not be of
legislative concern.
The Norwood chapter of the League informs and educates
the public on substantive issues in different ways. The
goal for this event is to provide the public with a comprehensive
overview of the Community Preservation Act that will
help voters make an informed decision when they go to the
polls on November 8.
