Friday 30th September 2016
Women police hold three-day retreat
The women within the Royal Police
Force of Antigua and Barbuda, in
the next couple of days will be locked
away in the first of its kind, “Women
Police Retreat.” The historic occasion
will be held at the Grand Royal Antigua
Resort from October 3rd - 6th, under
the theme, “Strong Women Bonding
Together to Make a Difference.”
The three-day event will commence
with an official opening ceremony on
Monday 3 rd October at 7 PM. A number
of dignitaries are expected to be in
attendance for the opening. During the
period, several notable lecturers and
presenters from a wide cross section
of society are expected to address over
150 women police officers, both from
the Regular and the Fire Departments.
The Role of Women in Law Enforcement;
Women in Leadership;
Emotional Intelligence; Domestic Violence\Gender
Violence; Life after Policing,
to mention a few, are some of
The chairman of Elite
Island Resorts, Mr. Rob A.
Barrett, expressed his strong
support for the statements
made by Senator the Honourable
Lennox Weston,
Minister of State within the
Ministry of Finance & Corporate
Governance, as it
pertains to the Antigua and
Barbuda Tourism Authority
(ABTA).
“It is a national disgrace
that there are no statements
given by the ABTA on their
activities and spending of
resources provided by the
people of Antigua & Barbuda.
the subjects expected to be covered.
The sessions will to start each day from
5:00 AM with morning devotions, followed
by a half hour of physical exercise,
and then into the work sessions.
According to a number of senior
female officers, one the primary objectives
of this retreat is for women within
the Royal Police Force of Antigua and
Barbuda to become more relevant. It is
also for them to have a sense of purpose
and belonging, especially within
There should be at least
a quarterly statement on the
achievements and spending
by the Authority.
At this time, there are
no clear benefits and no accountability
as to what the
Authority has been doing. In
my view this entity has not
been functional from inception,
even under the former
administration.
If the ABTA continues to
underperform, then this unit
should be managed by the
private sector while providing
clear accounts of what
the unit is doing.
I would further want it to
be known that should there
be no statements forthcoming
on the activities and accounting
of the ABTA, that I
will start to redirect the 2%
tax towards the Tourism Authority
Marketing Fund currently
being paid by my hotels
in Antigua directly into
to the Consolidated Fund.”
Elite Island Resorts
represents an impressive
collection of all-inclusive
beachfront properties in the
Caribbean.
Each resort provides
something unique for every
traveller, with offerings
ranging from destination
a male dominated organization. It is
to bring about that oneness and unity
among women police officers, and to
give them a distinctive voice.
Commissioner of Police, Wendel
Robinson has fully endorsed the bold,
yet historic move made by the women
within the organization, highlighting
that a number of them exemplified
leadership qualities, and are making
meaningful marks on the fabric of the
organization
