Discovering a Secret Haven
Nearly 21 years ago, by chance I turned onto a secret road that changed my
life forever. There nestled into the crook of the mountain was a massive,
old, charmingly inviting rock building. I was captivated. I pulled up to the
building to find a little old and man walking along the front porch. I asked
him who owned the building, he reqlied that he and his wife owned the
property. Without hesitation I asked if I could buy the building. His kind
reply was simple, “I have been waiting for you.” I bought the Rock Loft
from Dale and Margaret Jost, two of the kindest people I have ever met, and
the first of many great relationships to come from being in Fruit Heights. I
was not in the market to buy a building nor had I intented to start a business,
but fate and the indescribable spirit of the building had other plans for me.
Mountain Road was the original highway 89, when times were slower and
life simpler. The 1940 Historical Rock building was originally a thriving
cherry processing plant that supplied the Intermountain West with sweet
summer cherries. Many of the residents of Fruits Heights and the surrounding
communities have fond memories of the Rock Loft. The original charm
and history are evident in the building.
There are four business’ within the Rock Loft. The Bun Basket, a delicious
bakery and great place to eat lunch, the Canyon Gallery, great original art,
prints and framing, McCloud Photography, professional photography with
a personal touch. Then there is SECRET HAVEN and that is just what it is,
a ‘HAVEN’ hidden in the foothills of the maountain. Secret Haven is much
more than a place to shop. Friends gather here, traditions are celebrated,
creativity is in abundance giving customers an opportunity to transform a
house into the precious thing we call home.
The employees of Secret Haven are invaluable and a cherished part of the
spirit of Secret Haven. They faithfully serve the customers and bring a
cheerfulness that foster an atmospher of warmth. Their talent in design is
unmatched. The crew of Secret Haven realize the importance of community.
We have served on many levels, designing and creating a playhouse for
Make-A-Wish, serving the refugees, sub for Santa and collecting food for
the food bank. There is a special feeling within the walls of Secret Haven.
