Holidays - do you have a
favourite place you love
to go?
For our family, this is St
Agnes in Cornwall. We
stay in our old trailer tent
at a small campsite on a
working farm outside the
village.
The view that welcomes
you of the long stretch of
cliffs, coves and sandy
beaches is well worth the
long journey. Most evenings we stroll down to the old tin mine, perched on a
west-facing cliff and wait in anticipation to catch the fading rays of the sun,
hoping for a spectacular sunset. At night we can hear the sounds of the
ocean, the surf of the Atlantic, crashing onto the cliffs below St Agnes
beacon. When we wake up, if the sun is shining, we head for the nearby
cove, relaxing on a sandy beach, exploring the caves, walking on the cliffs
or the exhilaration of body boarding. There is something for everyone,
whatever your age.
This paints an idyllic picture of our holiday but in truth it’s not always like
this. Sometimes it’s misty, grey and raining and hard to find things that
everyone wants to do. Sometimes living in a field under canvas without all
the comforts of home seems like hard work! But still we keep coming back.
Why?
At a practical level, the reason we return
is because our trailer tent is too old to
make the journey back to Sheffield and
after our holiday we pack it away and
store it in a barn on the farm. But there is
also something very special about the
time we spend with family and friends in
St Agnes that draws us back.
