PROGRAMMES & INTERVENTIONS Strategic Planning ? Process completed with NH Badminton. Harbour Hockey in final stages of completion. Ongoing process for Netball North Harbour, Touch North Harbour and Harbour Volleyball. Club Strategic Planning ongoing with 14 clubs in the region. Volunteer Management ? Plans completed by NH Softball and Wakatere Boating Club and ongoing with Harbour Basketball. Club Development Support ? Projects aligned as outcomes within the strategic plans, including increase in junior participation, volunteer recruitment, volunteer training and development (committee PD), communication strategies, income generation, school/club links, targeted population engagement and income generation initiatives. Coach Development ? Volunteer and coach development workshops, and Coach Developer programme through schools and clubs... Three KiwiSport projects initiated. Facility Development Support ? In-depth and ongoing at Warkworth Showgrounds, Metro Park and Shepherd?s Park. Initiated at Freyberg Park Community Sports Village, Mairangi Bay Beach Volleyball Centre, Risk Management, Health and Safety and Child Protection ? Generic Workshops held, and further support for clubs and RSO?s: Harbour Hockey, NH Volleyball, and Netball NH. Financial Planning and Governance Support ? NH Softball, Touch NH, Tennis Northern NH Volleyball Targeted Community engagement ? Interventions designed to increase participation in Asian and Rural populations, and schools with lower participation in Sport and Recreation. KiwiSport Project support and development - Ongoing support with RSO?s, Clubs and schools on their KiwiSport projects. WORKSHOP PROGRAMME The ?Sector Knowledge? days have been designed for CEO?s and Sport Development staff around specific topics relevant to supporting their organisation. Topics have included: Auckland Council and Local Board Engagement and Collaboration Unitary Plan, Long Term Plan (LTP), Foundation North, Council and Local Board Funding, Health and Safety, Accounting Software, Sports Chaplaincy Support Child Protection. A second North Harbour Sports Summit was held in October which brought together Council, Local Boards and RSOs to discuss opportunities for sector collaboration to produce the best outcomes for sport and recreation across the region. The Harbour Sport Club Workshop Programme was once more tailored to cater for the identified needs of the community and focused on the key areas below as requested by local clubs: - Capability Assessment - Funding - Volunteer Management - Health and Safety 14
ACTIVASIAN The ActivAsian initiative has three key objectives: - Improving sporting opportunities for Asian people, with a particular focus on school-aged children - Improving access to information about sport and recreational opportunities for the Asian community - Encouraging more Asian people to participate in sport. In the past year, the continuing evolution of the initiative has seen the development of a framework with four strategic pillars, that serve to provide guidance on how we will achieve the above outcomes, and build a robust programme, supporting the development of sport, recreational and physical activity in the Asian communities: 1. Relationship Building 2. Participation ACTIVASIAN VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME To encourage young Chinese and Korean people to participate in sport through volunteering. - A very culturally diverse group of 115 young people between the ages of 15 and 30 has developed. WALK WITH US - ALBANY Weekly walks every Monday to promote regular physical activity, and introduce new migrants to walks, reserves, parks, landmarks and facilities in the community. 3. Education and Resources 4. Capability Building The following initiatives are currently being delivered under the ActivAsian umbrella: - We have had up to 61 people attend one session and have developed a database of over 90 individual participants over 15 weeks. ACTIVRECREASIAN Promoting participation and leadership in outdoor recreation in the Chinese and Korean community, at the same time raising awareness of safety and rescue protocols in NZ. - Delivery of 2-day Outdoor Leadership Courses to Chinese and Korean community groups - Over 120 people have participated in a course/training to date. SPIKE SPIN SMASH A weekly social, non-competitive sport opportunity (Badminton, Table Tennis and Volleyball), targeting secondary school aged students. - 25 ? 40 participants per session. FESTIVAL HAVE-A-GO Collaboration with RSO/NSO/Clubs to facilitate Have-a-Go activities at the Chinese New Year celebrations in Northcote. Over 5000 participants at the festivals AQUATICS COLLABORATION This initiative includes subsidised Skills Active Swim Teacher Training for bi-lingual individuals (English and Chinese/Korean) and a three day Water Safety Leadership course for secondary school students which covers in-pool water safety skills, leadership/presentation skills, Coast Guard Day Skipper course, stand-up paddle boarding, and beach education. - Key objectives are to improve the capability of learn-to-swim providers to meet the needs of the increasingly diverse community, and raise awareness of water safety including beach education, rock fishing and pool safety. 15
