14 c a r i b b e a n t i m e s . a g Tuesday 8th November 2016 James emerges overall winner of Junior Golf tournament By Carlena Knight Demar James was crowned the overall winner of the Independence Junior Golf tournament last Monday at the Cedar Valley Golf course. James, who has previously represented Antigua Barbuda in golf, took the overall crown in grand style out scoring all the other competitors by double figures. The event which was put on by the Ministry of Sports and sponsored by Paul Sudolski, a longtime supporter to the sport and Island Provision saw a number of bright and upcoming golfers. Nichols Elvin took the Boys Six Holes Title while Rhys Scott emerged the winner in the Boys Four Holes. Michelle Singh took the crown in the girls four holes while Nicole Weatherill and Joshua Burley were named champions in the girls and boys chip and putt competition. Coordinator of School golf, Otis Thomas was very pleased about the potential seen and commended his coaches, Bobby James, Tedson Weatherill and Ski Anthony for their work this far. The golfers will prepare to compete in the Thornhill competition slated for December. Antiguan racer finishes second runner up By Carlena Knight Antiguan racer, Jason ‘Watty’ Marsh finished second runner up over the weekend in the Haltec World Cup championship in Maryland, USA. Marsh drove his heart out in the the True Street class to capture the second runner position edging out a number of races from all over the globe. We join with the Antigua Barbuda Drag Racing Association in congratulating Marsh on his achievements thus far. West Indies have endured a lean run of late in the longest format but broke out of their prolonged slump when they beat Pakistan by five wickets in the third and final Test in Sharjah. Estwick said the victory was more than just a triumph as it had served as a template of how West Indies ought to approach their cricket going forward. “What we’ve got to do is build on it.
