Home games in bold *Midwest Conference game
With 53 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the
Macalester football team kicked a field goal that
put them ahead of Illinois College, 30-27—a
lead that the Scots held onto to earn their first-
ever Midwest Conference Championship title.
HEAD COACH TONY JENNISON
Hired in 2008, Tony Jennison has made unprecedented
progress toward making Macalester’s football
team a highly respected program in the Upper
Midwest. During Jennison’s reign as head coach,
the Scots have strung together
the best eight-year stretch in
the school’s history. Jennison’s
career-winning percentage at
Macalester is the program’s
highest in the last 50 years;
the Scots are 33-26 over the
last six seasons.
Jennison led Macalester to a history-making
season in 2014 as the Scots clinched the
Midwest Conference Championship title
and were the first outright conference
champions in 87 years at Macalester. The
2014 Macalester team had nine wins,
the most recorded season wins in school
history, and capped off a momentous year
with Mac’s first trip to the NCAA National
Playoffs. Along with the team’s success
came individual accolades: Jennison was named the 2014 Midwest
Conference North Division Coach of the Year and chosen by
the American Football Coaches Association as NCAA DIII Region
5 Coach of the Year.
His vision for Mac football is to build a nationally
reputable football program, one that mirrors
the college’s academic excellence, while
helping young men become better people,
students, and athletes.
While in college, Jennison realized that he
wanted to be in education and coach football.
The connections he made with coaches
were influential and helped him become the
person he is today. Jennison strives to have
that same influence on his own players.
What does Macalester’s location mean for me?
Macalester boasts one of the greatest collegiate settings in the nation, with all of
the amenities of a top liberal arts college campus, plus thousands of educational,
social, cultural, professional, and internship possibilities. Macalester sits nearly
equidistant from the downtowns of St. Paul and Minneapolis.
The Twin Cities are home to 17 Fortune 500 company headquarters, providing
exceptional internship and work opportunities while living right on campus. The
opportunities and connections facilitated by Macalester’s location far surpass
many other Minnesota colleges. The Twin Cities rank seventh as a college
destination, behind Boston/Cambridge, D.C., and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Home to 3.8 million people, this is the 14th largest metro area in the U.S.
The Twin Cities ranked second as “coolest community for young talent” by Next
Generation Consulting. It is the home to five professional sports teams including
the Vikings, Twins, Timberwolves, Wild, and Lynx.
With a major airport only minutes away and located just off Interstate 94,
Macalester is easy to access.
