NAfEES fLIES STRAIGHT TO GROUP
LEvEL
Coming from his debut win at Mont-de-Marsan on the 1st
October, Nafees (Azadi) established that he is still
improving by winning the French Arabian Breeders’
Challenge des Poulains (Gr. II PA). This was his first win at
Group PA level. The colt is trained by Charles Gourdain
on behalf of the Royal Stables of Oman and he clearly
appreciated the soft ground at Toulouse racecourse.
As in the Qatar Total Arabian Trophy des Poulains (Gr. I
PA) at Saint-Cloud at the end of September, Dahham
(Mahabb) didn’t live up to his excellent form from the
beginning of the year. He went in front, on an easy lead,
but weakened rapidly once in the straight. Nafees came
with his run up the rail, taking the advantage over Al
Mounteze Monlau (Nashwan Al Khalidiah) who had sat
in behind Dahham on the pace and who managed to
hold second place from barnamaj (No Risk Al Maury).
Second in the Qatar Arabian Trophy des Poulains and
second favourite in the race, Zikreet (Dahess) finished in
fourth place. The latter never looked comfortable and
was unable to take a place on the podium.
AN IMPROvING COLT WHO SHOULD STAy
fURTHER
Charles Gourdain was clearly delighted: “This is a
wonderful win, especially for owners such as the Royal
Stables of Oman, who have put a lot of trust in me. Nafees
impressed me today, finishing with plenty in hand. He
beat good horses easily. I thought that Valentin Seguy
rode very well, economically, and gave him a fluent race.
The horse like the ground and I think that he will stay
further.”
Autre(s) partant(s) dans l'ordre d'arrivée : Zikreet, Rmmas,
Dahham & Al Hantar Monlau. Tous couru (7). (Turf) Souple à
THE fAMILy Of vITELLA
Nafees comes from the exciting first generations bred by
The Royal Stables of Oman. His sire Azadi (Darike) didn’t
cover big books of mares initially, but that didn’t stop him
regularly producing good horses. Nafees is the only foal
out of vivamaria (Njewman) registered with France
Galop. The latter was in training with Robert Litt in
England, and was 4th in the Prix Nefta (Gr. II PA) at
Toulouse. This is one of the good families from the Plantin
stock, that of vitella (Njewman), winner of The Abu Dhabi
International Championship and The French Arabian
Breeders’ Cup Classic at Toulouse (Gr. I PAs). Vite Amine,
the dam of Nafees, was second in the Prix du Sultanat
d’Oman, beaten only by Ouragan du Cayrou (Dormane).
Nafees had the right to run well at this track.
