fRENCH ARAbIAN bREEDERS’CHALLENGE – SPRINT<br />

Gr. II PA, 4yos+, 1,400m, €45,000<br />

JAMAAyIL DENIES GHAZWA THE TRIPLE<br />

Winner of the last two editions of the race, Ghazwa (Zawam) put up a good show in the French<br />

Arabian Breeders' Challenge Sprint (Gr. II PA), but she was de-throned by Jamaayil (Al Jakbar), a<br />

filly over from Great Britain. Trained by Philip Collington, she was giving him a first success in France<br />

and straight in at Group level. She came with plenty of running in the final turn, and won with lots<br />

in hand. Jamaayil had been supplemented into the race. Aba’ath (Amer), one of the favourites in<br />

the race, was sadly injured in the back straight.<br />

Lahoob (Amer) and Mirna (Mahabb) led the small field, followed by the eventual winner who was<br />

always sat handily. She bounded forward in the straight, followed by Amjad Al Aziz (Dahess) on<br />

her tail. Ghazwa came in progression. Despite a courageous effort in the final few strides, the<br />

titleholder couldn’t reel in the English filly, but she held on to second place. Seen at the back of<br />

the field for most of the race, Worood (Akbar) finished well, but ceded third place on the line to<br />

Amjad Al Aziz, who picked back up just before the post.<br />

A TOUGH fILLy<br />

François-Xavier Bertras, the jockey on-board the winner explained: “She had never run in France,<br />

but she had showed quality in England. She gave a very good performance. English horses are often<br />

very tough. Her trainer told me to make my move early, and halfway down the straight I though I<br />

was beaten, but she picked up again. She is really very tough”<br />

A GOOD START fOR HARAS D’AL JAKbAR<br />

Jamaayil made her appearance on the international scene with a twelve-length victory at Newbury<br />

this summer. She is by Al Jakbar, who stands under the Shadwell banner. Stationed in Great Britain,<br />

he is available for artificial insemination. Other than Jamaayil, he is also the sire of Aghsaan, twice<br />

second at Group I PA level. Al Jakbar is also free from Amer and Manganate blood.<br />

THE fAMILy Of DAHOR DE bRUGèRE<br />

Jamaayil was bred by Shadwell. Her dam Hathrah (Makzan) never ran. The second dam, Ester du<br />

Paon (Chéri Bibi), won in Great Britain. berthe (Irmak), the third dam, foaled bergeronette<br />

(Djouran). The latter is best know for being the dam of ballade folle (Djelfor), from whom came<br />

Dormah de brugère (Dormane), winner of the Jumeirah International Stakes (Gr. II PA) at Newbury<br />

and of course Dormadora (Dormane), winner of the Challenge Derby du Président des Émirats<br />

Arabes Unis (Gr. II PA) and dam of the champion Dahor de brugère (Dahess), unbeaten at 3 years<br />

old in five starts, including the double of the Qatar Coupe de France des Chevaux Arabes and the<br />

Al Rayyan Cup - Prix Kesberoy (Grs I PA).
