fRENCH ARAbIAN bREEDERS’CHALLENGE – SPRINT
Gr. II PA, 4yos+, 1,400m, €45,000
JAMAAyIL DENIES GHAZWA THE TRIPLE
Winner of the last two editions of the race, Ghazwa (Zawam) put up a good show in the French
Arabian Breeders' Challenge Sprint (Gr. II PA), but she was de-throned by Jamaayil (Al Jakbar), a
filly over from Great Britain. Trained by Philip Collington, she was giving him a first success in France
and straight in at Group level. She came with plenty of running in the final turn, and won with lots
in hand. Jamaayil had been supplemented into the race. Aba’ath (Amer), one of the favourites in
the race, was sadly injured in the back straight.
Lahoob (Amer) and Mirna (Mahabb) led the small field, followed by the eventual winner who was
always sat handily. She bounded forward in the straight, followed by Amjad Al Aziz (Dahess) on
her tail. Ghazwa came in progression. Despite a courageous effort in the final few strides, the
titleholder couldn’t reel in the English filly, but she held on to second place. Seen at the back of
the field for most of the race, Worood (Akbar) finished well, but ceded third place on the line to
Amjad Al Aziz, who picked back up just before the post.
A TOUGH fILLy
François-Xavier Bertras, the jockey on-board the winner explained: “She had never run in France,
but she had showed quality in England. She gave a very good performance. English horses are often
very tough. Her trainer told me to make my move early, and halfway down the straight I though I
was beaten, but she picked up again. She is really very tough”
A GOOD START fOR HARAS D’AL JAKbAR
Jamaayil made her appearance on the international scene with a twelve-length victory at Newbury
this summer. She is by Al Jakbar, who stands under the Shadwell banner. Stationed in Great Britain,
he is available for artificial insemination. Other than Jamaayil, he is also the sire of Aghsaan, twice
second at Group I PA level. Al Jakbar is also free from Amer and Manganate blood.
THE fAMILy Of DAHOR DE bRUGèRE
Jamaayil was bred by Shadwell. Her dam Hathrah (Makzan) never ran. The second dam, Ester du
Paon (Chéri Bibi), won in Great Britain. berthe (Irmak), the third dam, foaled bergeronette
(Djouran). The latter is best know for being the dam of ballade folle (Djelfor), from whom came
Dormah de brugère (Dormane), winner of the Jumeirah International Stakes (Gr. II PA) at Newbury
and of course Dormadora (Dormane), winner of the Challenge Derby du Président des Émirats
Arabes Unis (Gr. II PA) and dam of the champion Dahor de brugère (Dahess), unbeaten at 3 years
old in five starts, including the double of the Qatar Coupe de France des Chevaux Arabes and the
Al Rayyan Cup - Prix Kesberoy (Grs I PA).
