David Valdes
Sergio Rivera has been named president and CEO of the vacation
ownership operating segment of ILG. His responsibilities include leading
the vacation ownership activity for Vistana TM Signature Experiences,
as well as for Hyatt Vacation Ownership. Rivera was most recently president
of the Americas for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. He
also served as president and CEO of Starwood Vacation Ownership
(now Vistana Signature Experiences), and has more than 25 years of
experience in real estate development and finance, design, operations,
consumer marketing and sales, and brand development.
David Valdes has been promoted to senior vice president of application
systems for Interval International. He is responsible for directing
all aspects of the systems development life cycle, including project
management, business analysis, application architecture, design,
coding, and quality assurance for all in-house-developed and thirdparty
applications. Valdes has been with Interval for 29 years.
MARRIOTT ACQUISITION CREATES
WORLD’S LARGEST HOTEL COMPANY
Marriott International, Inc. completed its US$13 billion acquisition
of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide in September 2016,
creating the world’s largest hotel company. The merger with
Starwood increases Marriott’s portfolio of brands from 19 to
30, and results in more than 5,700 hotels, amounting to 1.1
million rooms, in over 110 countries. This acquisition has more
than doubled Marriott’s distribution in Asia and the Middle East
and Africa combined.
