The team who run the
Chemotherapy Day Case Service
recently started using a new system called an
electronic Holistic Needs Assessment – which is
making a big difference to patients.
“Information on the unit is now tailored to
what patients need – rather than what we
assumed they wanted,” said Diane Ryan, NUH’s
Lead Chemotherapy Nurse.
SRU is an emergency admissions
unit that accepts patients from a
range of specialties – and it was a patient who
felt the unit deserved special recognition.
“I received excellent care from start to finish,”
said Kathryn Houghton of Newark, who
was admitted to SRU whilst undergoing
chemotherapy.
During the last year a team of
NUH specialists have set up a
community prostate cancer clinic in St Ann’s
– a project driven by concerns that black and
minority ethnic communities don’t engage with
health services as much as they could.
“The service is still in its infancy but uptake so
far has been very encouraging,” said Maria
Duffin-Mills, Matron for the Cancer and
Associated Specialties Division.
