The Urban Community of Nouakchott has put in place
a solar lighting project in public places. It was the first
institution in Mauritania to implement such a project.
Based on this initiative, the Mauritanian government has
launched a solar lighting project for urban roads in the
entire capital city of Nouakchott, which makes up a third
of the country’s population.
The Urban Community of Nouakchott has initiated a
series of actions to establish a strategic framework for
sustainable development at city level. In this context,
on June 18, 2015, the Urban Council of Nouakchott
adopted resolution 12/2015 containing general policies
to direct the city of Nouakchott towards the path of
sustainable development.
