YWP <strong>programme</strong><br />
Following the successful young water<br />
professionals (YWP) <strong>programme</strong> at the IWA<br />
World Water Congress in Beijing in 2006, the<br />
IWA YWP team has created a very ambitious<br />
<strong>programme</strong> for Vienna. Registration for the<br />
YWP <strong>programme</strong> is included in the price of<br />
a normal registration.<br />
YWP lounge<br />
A YWP lounge will be open during the event<br />
where young water professionals can relax<br />
after a presentation, take time out from the<br />
hectic congress schedule or simply meet<br />
and network with their peers.<br />
Sunday 7 September<br />
Workshop<br />
This one-day workshop will allow young<br />
water professionals <strong>to</strong> meet established<br />
water professionals and discuss the future<br />
challenges faced by the water sec<strong>to</strong>r.<br />
There will also be a career panel providing<br />
information on various water sec<strong>to</strong>r<br />
opportunities for YWPs.<br />
Monday 8 September<br />
Breakfast<br />
At this breakfast young water professionals<br />
and especially first-time congress attendees<br />
will be given information and practical<br />
advice that will make their time and<br />
experience at the Vienna congress as<br />
valuable and productive as possible.<br />
Tuesday 9 September<br />
CDWP meeting<br />
In this session young water professionals<br />
will have the opportunity <strong>to</strong> discuss<br />
the Harremoës Lecture on energy and<br />
water with members of the Council of<br />
Distinguished Water Professionals (CDWP)<br />
and find out how this important <strong>to</strong>pic will<br />
shape their decisions in the future.<br />
Wednesday 10 September<br />
PDA 2008 ceremony<br />
Young water professionals are invited <strong>to</strong><br />
attend the Professional Development Award<br />
(PDA) 2008 ceremony.<br />
Career fair<br />
A number of water industry companies<br />
and organisations will be represented<br />
at the career fair. This will give young<br />
water professionals the opportunity <strong>to</strong> talk<br />
directly <strong>to</strong> the staff about potential career<br />
opportunities.<br />
Thursday 11 September<br />
Open meeting<br />
The YWP Programmes Team will hold an<br />
open meeting between the members of the<br />
YWP Programme Committee and all the<br />
young water professionals present at the<br />
congress. This is the perfect opportunity for<br />
you <strong>to</strong> give your ideas and suggestions on<br />
what the YWP Programme needs <strong>to</strong> focus on<br />
over the next two years.<br />
Gala night<br />
The city of Vienna has planned gala “night<br />
of nights” with young water professionals<br />
firmly in mind. The doors of the Vienna City<br />
Hall will be thrown open <strong>to</strong> IWA guests for a<br />
feast of buffet-style food, drink, music and<br />
dancing. At midnight the Vienna waltzes will<br />
be overtaken by midnight clubbing as young<br />
water professionals continue <strong>to</strong> dance the<br />
night away.<br />

This two-day introduc<strong>to</strong>ry modelling<br />
workshop is organised by the “Good<br />
Modelling Practice – Guidelines for Use of<br />
Activated Sludge Models” IWA Task Group.<br />

The workshop is designed for people who<br />
don’t have prior experience in activated<br />
sludge modelling. It will provide detailed<br />
instruction on mathematical models and<br />
their structure and use in the design,<br />
operation and control of activated sludge<br />
plants. There will be ample hands-on<br />
opportunities <strong>to</strong> use the models during the<br />
workshop.<br />
