BUILDING PERMITS 581<br />

Building Permits.—Table 28, from the Labour Gazette of<br />

February, 1921, shows the value of the building permits issued by<br />

35 cities for each of the years 1917, 1918, 1919 and <strong>1920</strong>. For the year<br />

<strong>1920</strong> the total value of the building permits in the table was<br />

$100,679,839, as compared with $77,113,413 in 1919, an increase of<br />

$23,566,426.<br />

Ontario Hydro-Electric Power Commission.—The <strong>Canada</strong><br />

Year Book of 1910 (p. xliii) described the installation on October<br />

11, 1910, at Berlin, now Kitchener, Ontario, of electrical energy<br />

generated by the Niagara Falls, and the initial work carried out<br />

by the Ontario Hydro-Electric Power Commission for the supply<br />

of electrically generated power to 15 municipalities. During the
