A MESSAGE FROM
NORTH WEST TOURISM
Glance Tourism with the future eye
Mr. Loselo Segwe (CEO)
A
great worldwide travel explosion is expected in
the near future. Travel has become more like
millennium obligation and not a hobby anymore
worldwide. This is influenced by several developments
globally and information technology is a leading factor
in this regard, connecting people all over the world.
Fast mobility is making travel even easier by days
and thus encourages more people to undertake trips.
Advanced air-travel and open-skies policies adopted by
most countries are fuelling the global travel landscape.
Furthermore, the introduction of low-cost carrier
airlines has broadened access for emerging economies
to link with the advanced ones. On the other hand the
development of high-speed trains in advanced economies
is proving to be the alternative fast travel methods to
airlift. Reasons for travel are also increasing due to
globalisation inclination. This trend is likely to increase
by years as technological advancement continues to
influence travel.
Destination North West as part of the world is also
influenced and affected by these developments in travel.
It is time we interrogate ourselves by posing some of
these question. What does the current tourism trend
at all levels mean to destination North West? What
message is brought to us as a destination in this
regard? Perhaps we need not provide answers to the
questions but consider the implication holistically.
Tourism continues to grow every year defying even the
global economic challenges and will continue the trend
for as long as there are people on earth. Prioritising
Tourism as one of the economic pillars in the North West
Province is the right decision ever made.
Going into the future, destination North West will pay
special attention to the following in order to become or
remain competent in the tourist market:
Adopt the target marketing approach and then
concentrate our marketing efforts on a few key market
segments.
Introduce market and product positioning approach
to develop tailor-made products for specific target
markets
The current travel trends as well as the forecast at all
levels send a clear message to destination North West. As
the destination we should act accordingly and adjust our
strategies, programmes and focus. High consideration
should be given to creating competitiveness through
innovation and partnership. The future of tourism
remains bright; and with the necessary expertise, we
march into it with boldness.
