High School Basketball
The Baxter Springs Lions
beat the Erie Red Devils Tuesday
night with a final of 63 to
55 at Erie. The boys played
again last night in a non-conference
game against Diamond.
The paper went to press
before game time. The Lady
Lions played Girard on the
10th with a loss of 42 to 31.
Monday they played against
Erie with a win of 55 to 31.
The Rams faced off Tuesday
with Oswego. They squeeked
out a win of 56 to 54. The
Rams play St. Paul at home
tonight. The Lady Rams also
being on FRIDAY the 23rd instead
of the normal Saturday.
Distribution for TEFAP in
our area is at the First Baptist
Church in Riverton, 6895 SE
futures from the CO-OP as
of deadline on Monday. All
prices are subject to change
beat Oswego as well with a final
of 50 to 41. They will also
play St. Paul tonight.
The Wildcats faced off with
Wyandotte witha score of 58 to
39 for a loss. The Lady Wildcats
also had a loss to Wyandotte
with a final score of 38 to
30. The Wildcats are currently
in the Welch tournament.

Benefit Helps Toddler
in Eye Fight
Staff Reports
Riverton - When Mrs. Reed’s
6th grade Science students
came to class last week they
discovered that the “fictitious”
Professor Molly Cool had
been poisoned.
Students spent the next 3
class periods solving the mystery.
Students ran scientific
tests to determine what chemical
poisoned the victim. They
also performed ink chromatography
to determine who wrote
the note left at the crime scene.
A blood typing analysis was
performed to see whose blood
was left at the crime scene.
Students then analyzed all the
evidence and determined who
had poisoned Professor Molly
Cool. The students found this
to be a fun learning project that
put their science skills to use.

Riverton - I know when I was
a kid and got into an eye fight
someone usually ran to mom
crying about it and I got a well
deserved whoopin. Well, this
is not that kind of eye fight.
Spencer Ireland from Riverton
is 18 months old and he is
fighting to keep his sight.
Spencer has been diagnosed
with a Retino Blastoma (a cancer
in his eye) he has it both
eyes.
According to his mother Tiffany
Ireland, Spencer’s right
eye is doing much better and
his vision is at 50% after having
chemo treatments. Tiffany
said the doctors told her it
might improve over time. She
added that his left eye is still
being treated with a laser and
he has not had chemo on it yet.
The family had a pancake
feed at the Riverton Community
Building back on the 3rd
(morning of the parades).
All funds from the benefit
went to help pay for travel
and medical expenses that the
family is accumulating in their
travels. Currently they have to
travel to New York City every
six weeks for a treatment.
