The Ferguslie Learning Centre provides certificated learning opportunities at beginner’s levels within a friendly, community environment. The programme has been designed to assist adult learners who have little or no formal qualifications, which will help them increase their confidence and personal wellbeing, employability skills and career opportunities. Centre Timetable Monday BLOC (Building Learning Opportunities In our Communities) 13/2/17 to 20/3/17 8/5/17 to 19/6/17 9.30 am to 12 noon This 6 week course will help you to identify your personal skills and qualities, explore learning options, create a personal profile to apply for jobs, learn more about stress and coping strategies. Introduction to Sewing (non-certificated) 13/2/17 to 20/3/17 1.00 pm to 3.30 pm This 6 week programme will give Learners increased confidence with hand sewing skills.If you would like to expand on the absolute basics of hand sewing or you are looking to learn some simple stitches to make do and mend eg. (sew up a hem or sew on a button) this is the class for you. (Certificated courses will be offered as a progression in our future programmes) COMMUNICATION AND NUMERACY SUPPORT Will be available for all learners enrolled within the Centre (contact Kathleen for more information if required) Introduction to Horticulture (non-certificated) 24/4/17 to 19/6/17 1.00 pm to 3.30 pm This 7 week programme will be the beginning of the planning and preparation for our Learning Centre, Community Garden. This programme will be an excellent starting point for any learners who would like to increase their knowledge and understanding of gardening, providing an introduction to the key principles of Horticulture. Learners will gain confidence and increase practical knowledge which will enable them to use in their own gardens. INFORMATION SESSION FOR ALL CLASSES MONDAY AFTERNOONS 1-3PM IN JANUARY 9, 16, 23 AND 30 Tuesday Improving Wellbeing SCQF Level 4 17/1/17 to 23/5/17 9.30 am to 12.00 noon Learners will undertake an activity aimed at improving the wellbeing of themselves or others, setting out targets, carrying out a plan for improving wellbeing. They will also evaluate and review the planned activity. This will include a review of how the activity has impacted on their personal wellbeing. Basic Customer Service SCQF Level 4 17/1/17 to 14/3/17 1.00 pm to 3.30 pm This course will help you understand the personal factors and skills required in making a positive first impression with customers and dealing with customers’ needs. In particular, you will develop good communication and effective listening skills. Customer Service Principles & Practices SCQF Level 5 21/3/17 to 23/5/17 1.00 pm to 3.30 pm This course covers the principles of customer’s service; how to present yourself to a customer in person or on the phone and how to deal with difficult situations.
Wednesday Travel and Tourism : Local Tourism Product Knowledge SCQF Level 4 8/2/17 to 14/6/17 1.00 pm to 3.30 pm Learners will also develop knowledge of the location of a selection of local tourist destinations, attractions and physical features and will develop an awareness of their appeal to tourists. Pop in to the Centre for a cuppa and a chat Thursday PC Passport – Spreadsheets SCQF Level 4 19/1/17 to 1/6/17 9.30 am to 12.00 noon Learners will gain knowledge and skills in creating simple spreadsheets and implementing practical solutions using a range of basic features. Moving on in IT SCQF Level 4 19/1/17 to 1/6/17 1.00pm to 3.30 pm This course is suitable for learners who have basic IT knowledge or have completed the Getting Started in IT course and would like to progress and improve their computing Skills. This Unit is suitable for learners who have no previous experience of using spreadsheet applications and wish to gain basic competency in their use. Friday Personal Development - Practical Abilities SCQF Level 4 20/1/17 to 26/5/17 9.30 am to 12.00 noon This course will enable learners to improve their self-reliance and confidence by developing their practical abilities while participating in one or more projects, with support. Online Learning Support SCQF Level 4 IT skills essential prior to enrolling 20/1/17 to 26/5/17 1.00pm to 3.00 pm On-line Learning Support will be provided for learners who may be New to Online courses and require a little assistance to get them started, learners who enrol for online provision can use the Centre IT equipment at this drop in.
