National Innovation Award<br />
Financial support to the National Innovation Awards<br />
<strong>Bayer</strong> <strong>Thai</strong> strongly showed it commitment<br />
to strengthening the innovation culture<br />
in <strong>Thai</strong>land by sponsoring the National<br />
Innovation Awards since 2005. The awards,<br />
held by the National Innovation Agency<br />
(NIA) of the Ministry of Science and<br />
Technology, are to recognize achievements<br />
in innovation that benefit the economy and<br />
society with the broader aim of strengthening<br />
the national innovation culture and awareness<br />
at all levels of industry, in the public sector<br />
and academia.<br />
The awards were presented in two categories: çOutstanding Innovation in Economicsé and çOutstanding<br />
Innovation in Societyé, with five prizes for the top projects in each category. Moreover, project entries<br />
must be suitable for practical use or commercial application under key criteria of degree of novelty,<br />
management process, and overall benefit of the innovation. Winners were benefitcial from prize money<br />
together with a prestigious trophy and certificate.<br />
Liver Cancer Prevention Project<br />
<strong>Bayer</strong> <strong>Thai</strong> and the National Cancer Institute Foundation formed a cooperation in a çLiver Cancer<br />
Prevention Projecté over a period of three years, from <strong>2009</strong> until 2011, with an aim to build public<br />
awareness about the threat of cholangiocarcinoma to <strong>Thai</strong> people in order to reduce incidence and<br />
fatality. The implementation began in the Northeast; the region with the highest prevalence of<br />
cholangiocarcinoma. çTrain the Traineré training session was conducted for the local public health village<br />
volunteers under the pilot campaign entitled ùKin Sook Saeb Lai-Than Pai Ma-Reng Tubû (Letûs eat cooked<br />
food to prevent Liver Cancer). The trained volunteers<br />
would help pass on the knowledge to their fellow<br />
villagers and convince them to have proper<br />
eating behavior.<br />
Moreover public relations and mass communications<br />
through various media channels, including TV,<br />
radio, educational media, and field activities will<br />
be included. The campaign has also won strong<br />
support from ùmorlumû (northeastern-style) band,<br />
Siang-Esarn, which has written the lyrics and<br />
composed the music for the campaignûs theme<br />
song which will help get the campaign message<br />
across to the target group effectively.<br />
