KHS matric class of 2016 makes it
100 percent for 25 years in a row!

and the staff room.
The bald statistics tell a tale
of their own, a tale of achievement.
There were 12 A aggregates,
21 B aggregates, 32 C
aggregates, 18 D aggregates
and only 9 E aggregates.
86% of the subject marks
were above 50% (a crucial
figure in terms of acquiring a
Bachelor’s pass to university).
Indeed from the entire class
of 92 girls, there were only 3
subject failures, a phenomenal
statistic.
Two former KHS girls
achieved 7 A symbols
(Rivania Naidoo with a 97%
aggregate and Asiphesona
Madlingozi with a 93% aggregate.
One former learner achieved
6A’s, Sinovuyo Rulumente
with a 91% aggregate.
In terms of subject symbols
the class produced the following
excellent results: 112
distinctions, 150 B’s, 172 C’s
and 119 D’s.
The matric class of 2016
gained a resounding 82%
Bachelor’s pass and an
astounding 25th consecutive
100% pass rate.
KHS deputy head, John Kerr
said:'After 25 years to still be
achieving a 100% pass rate
is an outstanding achievement
and the King community
should be proud to have an
educational institution of this
nature in their midst and
COCONUT BEEF CURRY
Ingredients
5oz natural yoghurt
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 Tablespoon curry powder
2lb lean stewing beef, cubed
2oz Desiccated coconut
¼ pint milk
½ pint beef stock
14oz can tomatoes
Boiled rice to serve
Accompany with mango chutney,
diced cucumber and yoghurt

KHS head, Johann Loubser,
singled out two teachers for
congratulations: Tish Wingate
whose History class gained
a 78% aggregate and Albert
Mawonde whose Geography
class gained a 73% aggregate.
Loubser then went on to
thank Kerr for his efficient
organisation of the matric
exams, Anton Peenz of the
Department of Education for
his interest in and vital support,
Gordon Pope, chairperson
of the Governing Body
and all the matric’s parents
for their input.
Loubser said: 'These results
are a magnificent achievement
for the school and King
William’s Town to celebrate.
'It is my fervent hope to keep
our excellent and experienced
teachers, so that KHS
can maintain its service to to
our community and town.'
Loubser concluded with this
comment:'The school (KHS)
needs more support – financial
and emotional from King
William’s Town and the Department,
so that our children ‘can
flower where they are planted'.
Quentin Hogge, a teacher,
commented that, “I am
amazed at how little acknowledgement
has been forthcoming
at this 25 years of
excellence, particularly considering
that the Eastern
Cape came bottom of the
class in all of South Africa”.
Mix yoghurt, garlic and curry powder,
stir in the beef and leave to marinade
for 1
hour.
Meanwhile soak coconut in milk,
place beef and marinade in to a pan
with coconut, milk, stock and
tomatoes.
Bring to the boil, cover and simmer
for 2 hours or until meat is tender, stir
occasionally.
Serve with rice and accompaniments.
