Allsorts AllStars vs. Special
Olympics Mixed
Allsorts Football Team – ‘Allsorts AllStars’
– took to the pitch for their first official
Football Match on October 25th at the
Special Olympics celebration event in
Cheltenham. The 6 players (see picture
for names) played two 20 minute matches
against two mixed Special Olympic Teams
in Leisure @ Sports Centre, in front of a
lively crowd of family members and keen
observers!
The first match went off at a frantic pace,
with the AllStars winning 7-2. Ben Wood’s
clinical performance saw him score four
goals with co-captain Alfie Mustoe chipping
in with three goals himself. The strike force
duo were backed up by solid defensive
performances from Alex Batterham and
James King, with excellent distribution
from both players. Liam Kingston was a
constant menace to the opposition, whilst
Sam Frasier provided a superb box-to-box
performance for the team.
The second game was a more evenly
contested fixture. The Special Olympic team
constantly tested the defensive capabilities
of the AllStars, but Alex Batterham, James
King and Sam Frasier kept the Special
Olympic Team at bay. Alfie Mustoe and
Ben Wood bagged a goal each, with some
excellent link up play throughout. The star
moment came from Liam Kingston, who in
the final minutes of the game broke away
from the opposition defence and curled
an excellent finish into the far corner. The
crowd went wild! The game finished as a
3-3 draw, and after a lengthy shootout the
Special Olympics Team scored the decisive
spot-kick and took the second game.
A fine afternoon of Football played out
professionally by all players. A big thank
you to all the families and friends who
came to support, with special mention
to Allsorts volunteers Gemma Wilks and
Shannon Rowe for coaching the Special
Olympics teams. Allsorts AllStars are
looking forward to many more Football
matches against teams from across
Gloucestershire – so watch this space!
