The year 2016 was a successful and productive year for the Hospital
Service Unit. We increased our membership, conducted a successful
fundraising raffle, rebuilt our parade float, and participated in parades at
MASA in Virginia Beach and in the King Frost parade locally at Hamburg.
We are very fortunate to have many Nobles and Ladies who volunteer
their time and talents to make Rajah Shrine the great fraternity that
it is today. Within our organization there is a group of Nobles who
have accumulated many hours of dedication and volunteer service to
Rajah Shrine and Shriners Hospitals for children. At our Rajah Shrine
Ceremonial held in December we capped off our year by honoring seven
drivers who collectively completed over nine hundred and fifty patient
transports to and from Shriners Hospitals. When you consider that the
average patient transport involves about seven hours of a driver’s time
those honored have
volunteered over six thousand hours in transporting our
patients. In addition to being presented with a certificate of appreciation
from Ill. Sir Lawrence S. Bortz III their names have been inscribed on the
Driver Recognition Plaque that hangs in the multi-purpose building. Those
shown with the Ill. Sir receiving their recognition are from left to right
William Horn, Robert Crouse, and Roy Merkel. In addition those honored
were Russell Hottenstein, James Laudenslager, Ronald Weitzel, and Terry
LeFever.
Looking ahead to 2017, we wish Ill. Sir. David W. Evans and his Lady
Sarah a very successful year. We also extend an invitation to Nobles to
join us and become a hospital driver.
PHILADELPHIA SHRINERS HOSPITALS FOR
CHILDREN RECEIVES LARGE DONATION
Ron Strohl, President of the Calvin A. King and Jean
C. King Charitable Foundation, recently presented a most
generous check for $105,199 to the Philadelphia Shriners
Hospitals for Children. Ron is a Rajah Shriner and
remarked during the presentation that he believes strongly
in the mission of the Shriners Hospitals.
In thanking Ron, Terry Diamond, Director of
Development said that “the Foundation’s gift was most
appreciated and will make a significant and positive impact
in the improved function, health and well-being of the many
infants, children and teens that come to our hospital. The
generosity of donors is what enables the Shriners Hospitals
for Children to deliver life-changing medical care without
placing burden on the families of our children.”
The Calvin A. King and Jean C. King Charitable
Foundation was established in 2011 for the primary purpose
of helping accounting students in Tennessee become CPAs
and providing for patients at St Jude Children’s Hospital
in Memphis.
