Bell Ringers Outing to
York
On Saturday 29th April the St Mary’s
Church Bell Ringers have arranged an
outing to the historic city of York.
They hope that with enough
passengers, they can keep the coach
fare to £12.00 (the same as last year).
This is an amazing bargain for a visit
to such a lovely city.
York was founded by the ancient
romans. Its huge 13th century Gothic
cathedral York Minister, has medieval
stained glass and 2 functioning bell
towers. The city walls form a walkway
on both sides of the River Ouse. The
Monk Bar gate houses an exhibition
tracing the life of 15th century
Plantagenet King Richard III.
There are so many things to see and
do in York, you will be spoilt for
choice.
From the number of museums:
The Railway Museum, York Castle
Museum, the Yorkshire Museum and
the JORVIK Viking Centre which will
re-open on Saturday 8th April 2017.
To shopping:
York will satisfy even the most
demanding shopper. Wander the web
of cobbled shopping streets to browse
the amazing array of independent
boutiques, vintage stores and popular
high street names. And of course you
cannot visit York without experiencing
its top visitor attraction - York Minister.
The minster is not only an
architecturally stunning building but is
a place to discover the history of York
over the centuries, its artefacts and
treasures.
The coach will leave Finedon at
9.00 am and will be returning from
York at 6.30 pm so there is time to
attend Evensong at the Cathedral.

Smartie Sunday
On Sunday 26th February we will give
everyone a tube of Smarties again and
ask them to fill it with 20p pieces. This
year we will be giving a small donation
to the Church Urban Fund from the
monies collected. The Church Urban
Fund was established as a response
to unmet needs of the community,
helping our neighbours. During
Advent the Church Urban Fund
challenged churches to a sponsored
‘Sleepout’ to help the homeless which
was very successful.
All across the country there are
families going without food, children
going to school hungry and parents
missing meals so their children can
eat.
Churches are being invited to host ‘Big
Pancake Parties’ in Lent to raise
money for those who would appreciate
your support this year. As the
Thursday Club raise money for the
Children’s Society with Pancake
Races we would like to give a
donation from our Lent Smartie tubes
to the Church Urban Fund.
